Itazura na Kiss: Drama Synopsis - Ep. 4

Itazura Na Kiss Episode 4
The Kiss Without Feeling

Naoki comes in to tell Kotoko that his granny has woken up. Kotoko slips in her haste and falls onto Naoki. Just then, Naoki's father and Kotoko's dad comes home and sees them sprawled on the floor. Naoki defends himself and says that he will never go for a woman like Kotoko.

Kin-chan sees the poster on the notice boatd and tears it down. The poster speaks of Kotoko spending a night with Naoki. Kin-chan asks those around as to who put up the poster. Just then, the discipline master comes and drags Kin-chan away, thinking that he is the culprit for putting up the poster. Reiko walks by Kotoko and stares at hard with hatred and jealousy.

In the staff office, the 'A' class form teacher screams at the 'F' class form teacher for letting Kotoko get Naoki into trouble. The 'F' class form teacher tells her not to push the blame on him and insult his class.

Kotoko apologises to Naoki for causing trouble. Just then, Machiko and Yuki come home from the countryside. Machiko misunderstands that dinner is prepared by Kotoko and praises her. Kotoko tells her that Naoki cooked the food but Machiko still praises Kotoko. Yuki doesn't see why his mother should praise Kotoko when it is Naoki who cooked the food. Machiko says that Naoki will only cook for Kotoko and this makes Kotoko extremely happy.

At school, the 'F' class is only given employment information instead of university enrolment info. Junko and Satomi tell Kotoko that it is not possible for Kotoko to go into the same university as Naoki since he is a genius.

Watanabe asks Naoki if he is going to study at University of Tokyo (Todai)'s science faculty. He tells Naoki that he will be studying medicine at Keio University with Reiko. Reiko says that she is going to study at Todai with Naoki even though her whole family graduated from Keio. Watanabe also decides to follow Reiko and go to Todai. Naoki doesn't seem to be enthusiastic about this.

Kotoko is shocked to know that Junko and Satomi have already chosen where to go after high school graduation. Kotoko doesn't have anything in mind and asks Kin-chan about his plans. However, Kin-chan seems to be in a rush and doesn't answer her questions. Seeing that even Kin-chan has his plans, Kotoko is even more lost.

At dinner, Kotoko asks Naoki if he is going to Todai but he doesn't answer. Machiko disapproves of Naoki going to Todai because Todai guys are boring. However, Naoki's dad is also from Todai. Machiko says that it is better to be skilled in something than to go to Todai. She sings Kotoko's dad praises and even asks Naoki to be Shige's (Kotoko's dad) disciple. Yuki thinks it is a waste of talent for Naoki to be just a chef. Machiko even tells Naoki to get married with Kotoko. Kotoko starts dreaming about her marriage with Naoki.

Kin-chan goes to Shige's restaurant and asks Shige to take him as a disciple.

Naoki overhears his dad talking on the phone and asks him if there is anything wrong with the company. His dad tells him not to worry and asks Naoki about his future plans. Kotoko accidentally hears their conversation. Naoki's dad tells him that if he goes to Todai, he would of course be very happy. However, the choice is Naoki's. He tells Naoki not to nother about his company and that he will support Naoki no matter what he chooses to be.

kotoko and Naoki's family goes to Shige's shop to eat. Kotoko is shocked to see Kin-chan working in her father's shop. Actually, Shige has accepted Kin-chan as his disciple because of his determination. Kin-chan tells Kotoko that he is doing this for her sake. Yuki scolds Kin-chan for being a fool to decide his future for a woman. Kin-chan however thinks it is worth it and Machiko praises Kin-chan for it.

Kotoko asks Naoki if he has chosen what he wants to be in future. She admits that she is lost. Naoki refuses to answer her so Kotoko comes to the conclusion that Naoki is as lost as her. Naoki tells Kotoko that his future is of no concern to her but Kotoko tells Naoki that he is the one she likes most in public. Naoki thinks that she is silly for doing that.

The 'A' class form teacher tells Naoki that the school is willing to send him overseas as an exchange student and asks him to consider this. Naoki seems to be at a loss of what to do.

Kotoko returns home to see Yuki with his friends. Yuki has won the top prize in his school's composition contest. Kotoko reads the composition and comes to the conclusion that Naoki wants to be his father's company's boss. Kotoko pretends that she is a secretary and embarrasses herself in front of Yuki's friends. Yuki gets angry at Kotoko.

At dinner, Yuki refuses to come down and sulks in his room. At the mention of Naoki becoming a boss, Naoki goes upstairs without finishing his dinner.

Kotoko's teacher tells her to hand up her option form as soon as possible. Reiko tells Naoki to meet her tomorrow at 1 pm at Akasaka saying that she has something to discuss with him. This is overheard by Kotoko. Reiko sees Kotoko and tells her not to interrupt her date with Naoki.

The next day, Kotoko trails Naoki and Reiko to a cafe and meets Watanabe who has also come to see them. Reiko tells Naoki to make up his mind soon so that she can be with him in the same school. She then kisses Naoki. Kotoko and Watanabe are shocked. Kotoko leaves the cafe crying bitterly. Naoki is shocked to see Kotoko around.

Kotoko refuses to eat dinner and hides in her room. Machiko asks Naoki if he has made Kotoko angry. Yuki is unhappy that Machiko always sides with Kotoko.

The next day at school, Kin-chan finds two posters on the notice board. One is about Reiko and Naoki kissing while the other is about Kotoko and Watanabe being an item. Kin-chan tears down the poster about Kotoko and is dragged away by the discipline master. Reiko comes and insults Kotoko again. Junko and Satomi stand up for Kotoko and reveals the fact that Kotoko has kissed Naoki before. Naoki admits this but says that he wasn't a willing party. On hearing this, Kin-chan tries to thrash Naoki but in vain.

Naoki knows that the posters were the works of Reiko and tells her to stop her nonsense. Reiko tells him that she will do all that she can in order to win Naoki's affection.

At dinner, Machiko tells the family that she intends to renovate the house in order to let Kotoko and Shige stay with the Irie family. Naoki flares up at Machiko and tells her to spare a thought for his father. He then leaves the dinner table. Kotoko and Shige feels bad about this.

Kotoko rushes upstairs to reprimand Naoki's rude behaviour towards Machiko. Naoki tells her that since she doesn't understand him. Kotoko is in no position to scold him. Yuki is angry at Kotoko for causing Naoki's quarrel with Machiko and disfigures Kotoko in his drawing. He then throws the crumpled drawing at Kotoko. Naoki seems to be very troubled.

Machiko tells Shige that her husband is always busy with work. Naoki and Yuki are always independent so Machiko feels redundant to the family sometimes. Kotoko and Shige's presence makes Machiko feel important so that is why she insists on making them stay. Machiko pleads with Shige to stay on with Kotoko.

Kotoko is feeling sad about the incident at the dinner table. Shige comes to Kotoko's room and tells her that they should leave the Irie family soon. Kotoko agrees to it and they play their favourite instrument. Yuki and Naoki hears it from their room. Yuki remarks that the music sounds like noise to him. Shige tells Kotoko that loving Naoki whole-heartedly is good but she should never be a burden to him. Kotoko tries to console herself by saying that Naoki has Reiko who is better than her in every aspect. Shige tells Kotoko that one fine day, Naoki will come to realise her good points. Kotoko is delighted at her father's remark.

At the fast-food joint, Kotoko tells Junko and Satomi that she plans to go into their school's affiliated university. However, they don't seem to be very optimistic about Kotoko making it to that university. Even if she makes it, the chance of Naoki choosing the affiliated university is almost zilch. Kotoko is slightly disheartened but they console her that if she works hard enough, everything will be worth it.

Naoki submits his option form choosing the faculty of economics in Todai. His form teacher is shocked as to why Naoki didn't choose the science faculty and asks if his parents know about this. Naoki tells her that they don't know and leaves the staff room.

Reiko asks Naoki why he has chosen economics instead of science. He expresses his wish to assist his father in business so economics would be a better choice. Reiko then rushes to the staff room to change her option. Watanabe sees this and also decides to follow suit. He bumps into Kotoko and tells her that Naoki has changed his mind. Kotoko misunderstands that Naoki has decided to go into the afiliated university but Naoki changed the faculty only. Kotoko leaps into joy and is excited at the thought of studying in the same university as Naoki.

Shige calls Naoki to his shop and apologises for the trouble that he and Kotoko has caused. Shige tells Naoki that he will moving out with Kotoko soon. He wants Naoki to understand Machiko's predicament and not blame her for anything. Shige sings Kin-chan's praises and says that a man who has decided on his future looks very attractive. Looking at Kin-chan working hard to be a chef, Naoki seems to be in deep thought.

Kotoko misunderstands that Naoki is going to the same university with her and studies hard. However, Naoki dampens her spirits by saying that he is changing the faculty only and he will be going to Todai as planned. Just then, Naoki's dad asks him to apologise to Machiko for what he did. Machiko tries to appease her husband's anger but he is adamant. He even wants Naoki to apologise to Kotoko and Shige. Kotoko eavesdrops by the side. Naoki wants to leave the living room upon hearing this but his father forces him to sit down. He asks Naoki why he had to change his option and tells him that he doesn't want Naoki to work in his company. Naoki expresses his feeling that the choice is his and nobody has affected his decision. Yuki is angry at this and scolds his father for being a fool. He thinks that Machiko and Kotoko are at fault so Naoki shouldn't be made responsible for what happened. Naoki leaves the house in frustration.

Kotoko follows Naoki and persuades him to go home. She apologises for the trouble she caused but Naoki tells her to leave him alone. He feels that his parents and Shige have nothing better to do except to profess their great friendship. Kotoko tells Naoki that she does understand him. Naoki is just putting on a front to conceal his kind nature. The kind nature is what attracts Kotoko. However, she hates the Naoki today. Naoki tells her to shut up. Even though Naoki may dislike Kotoko, he should never put his parents down. In that way, Kotoko will hate him to the core. Naoki questions Kotoko's ability to hate him since she likes him so much. Naoki kisses Kotoko and asks her if she can still hate him. Kotoko is stumped.

In Yuki's room, he is drawing a picture and relates how stress can turn the hair of one person white overnight. However, in Yuki's case, he is experiencing premature baldness. He feels that this is Kotoko's fault.

The next day, Naoki expresses his wish to move out of the house. Everyone is shocked by this...
