This is my first fanfic. I wanted to write one about Naoki and Kotoko. Everyone writes about the future, so I decided to write one about the past. I have always wondered why and how Naoki met Kotoko, so I made up this story. I don't have a catchy title or anything, but I hope you enjoy it. Thanks =) ============================================================= Naoki's Story: Before Kotoko gave him the love letter "Oh look, it's Irie-kun. He's so handsome and so smart. I wish that I could have a boyfriend like him. Actually, I'd like him to be my boyfriend. Heehee...shh, he's coming." School, how boring Naoki thought as he walked by the girls that were staring at him. Everyone here admires me because I am a genius. How come I had to be born so smart. I can't help but look down at people. Walking through the hall with his book bag Naoki thought to himself. Thoughts that he would never tell anyone. It was mama's fault, dressing him up like a girl when he was young. At least Yuki doesn't know. He couldn't imagine what Yuki would think if he ever found out that his older brother used to be a cross dresser. "Hey, Naoki. Come one, let's get going. We'll be late for class." Breaking his thoughts Naoki looked up to see Watanabe, his friend since junior high standing in front of him. "All right," he replied picking up his book bag. As he walked towards the classroom labeled "1-A" he thought here's to another day of boring classes where the teachers need more help than the students and stupid girls. "Kotoko, good morning!!" Glancing up from a magazine Kotoko replied to one of her best friends, "Good morning, Satomi. Did you study for the math test??" "No," she said. "I was busying watching TV. Did you watch the show?? I can't believe that Mark left Faith for Jessica!!" "I know!! After being with her for over two years," Kotoko said angrily. "Yeah and to think that..." Oh my goodness, there he is, Irie Naoki. It's been half a school year since I first saw him at the high school ceremony. His speech was so moving and I couldn't take my eyes of him. If only I had the courage to talk to him, but what would I say?? "Hey Kotoko!!" someone yelled. Kotoko turned around to see Junko, her other best friend standing next to her. By that time Naoki had walked down the hall to his class. "Ah sorry!! Good morning." "Already daydreaming about him?? Tsk tsk Kotoko. Were you thinking naughty thoughts??" Juko asked laughingly. "No, I was not," she replied, but her face gave a different answer. Kotoko could feel her face flushing red showing her feelings. "Come on, class is about to start." The three of them hurried to their classroom. Kotoko looked up at the door which had a sign that said "1-F". Walking to her desk and placing her bag down she thought how much she wished to be in the A class with Irie-kun. Shaking her head she told herself to not think about him and study for the math test. 57% "Oh no," Kotoko groaned when she saw the grade on he math test. While she was taking the test she couldn't get Irie-kun out of her mind. She usually got 70% on her tests. "How did you do??" Satomi asked. "Terrible. You?" Kotoko asked. "Same as you," she replied. "Do you think that we will ever get a chance to move up to a higher class??" Kotoko asked. "No way," Junko replied. "We'll always be in the F class and that's final." "Yeah, no matter how hard we try we will always be here,"Satomi agreed. "Give it up Kotoko," Junko said. "To forget about our horrible test grades, I suggest that we go to Wonder Dog after school. We can ask Kin-chan to come too, ok??" "Ok," said Kotoko. "Class, Naoki got another 100% on his test. Let's give him a round of applause," said the 1-A theacher. Yeah Naoki thought another 100%. Woohoo. I'm so happy. Why do they make such a big deal out of it. They know that I always get perfect scores or if not perfect the highest scores. During lunch Watanabe asked Naoki, "What are you doing after school??" "I'm going home," he replied. "Why??" "A bunch of us are going to Wonder Dog and we were wondering if you would like to come." "No," he said. "Come on, it's not like you will be doing anything at home. Plus, it's been half a school year and you still haven't become friends with any of our classmates," Watanabe pointed out. "So please go." "Fine," Naoki replied knowing that he could never beat Watanabe's pleading. "But if I get bored I'm going home, ok??" "All right," Watanabe said cheerfully. Wonder Dog was an amusement park with roller coasters, games, and delicious food. "Ah," Kotoko sighed. "I just love the smell of freshly popped popcorn." "Here you guys, it's on me," Kin-chan said handing each of them a small carton of popcorn. "Thanks," Kotoko replied taking a handful of buttery popcorn and sticking it in her mouth. "Hmmm," Junko said. "So yummy." "So what ride should we go on first?" Satomi asked as they walked around. "Top Gun or The Grizzly?" "Umm," Kotoko replied. "How about Top Gun. I don't really like The Grizzly much." "Ok," said Kin-chan. "Let's go get in line." "This is going to be so much fun," Satomi said cheerfully. "I'll race you to the line." "All right," Junko answered. "Come on Kotoko." "Wait," she said as she threw away the empty popcorn carton then wiped her hands on her school uniform. "All right. I'm ready." "Better be careful," Junko warned. "I'm definitely going to win." "We'll see," smiled Satomi. The rest of his classmates were walking in front of him. Naoki was lagging behind on purpose. He didn't really want to socialize with them because he didn't really know what to talk to them about. Maybe I'll go home he thought. Naoki walked up to Watanabe. Just as he was about to open his mouth to speak he heard a scream and a string of laughter. Looking up along with the rest of the people, he saw three girls running through the crowd. Naoki noticed that the girls were wearing uniforms from his high school. He wondered who they were and what class they were in because he had never seen them before. He especially noticed one of the girls, she was a brunette and had big brown eyes. She had a big smile on her face, a smile that had an innocent, childish look. A look that was carefree, a look that touched his heart. Naoki shook his head and looked away from the scene. After finding Watanabe, Naoki said goodbye and went home. Kotoko had so much fun at Wonder Dog. She, Junko, Satomi, and Kin-chan went on all the roller coasters and played in the arcade. She hadn't had that much fun in a long time. After many more failed tests and watching Naoki from a far, Kotoko's first year of high school was over and summer vacation was here. Junko was going to Okinawa to visit her family and Satomi was going to Kyoto for a month. Kotoko was left alone and because she was lonely and bored she decided to get a job. After applying to many places, she was accepted to work at a Ramen shop. So besides summer school, Kotoko worked at the restaurant five times a week taking order and serving that customers. She enjoyed her job because she met a lot of interesting people. Naoki never saw the girl that he saw at Wonder Dog at school, in the end he decided that she probably moved. So Naoki spent his summer playing tennis and reading books. One day after playing a long match, Naoki decided to go eat. He remembered seeing a Ramen shop on the way to the tennis courts that looked pretty good. So he decided to go. As he walked in he heard, "Welcome to Sumo Ramen. How mant people?" "One," he replied. "Ok," the hostess said. "Follow me." Picking up his tennis bag, Naoki followed the hostess to his seat which was in the corner. "Your server will be with you shortly," she said as she handed him the menu. A couple minutes later, Naoki ordered a seafood ramen. While eating he heard the chef yell, "Kotoko, come here!!" Naoki saw a girl run into the kitchen. She looked familliar, but he couldn't remember where he had seen her. Finishing his ramen, Naoki paid and left the shop. Seeing Naoki leave lifted a heavy weight off Kotoko's shoulders. When she saw him walk in she immediately froze and because of him she messed up the customers orders. Her boss was upset and called her into the kitchen. He asked her what was wrong and hoped that it wouldn't happen again. Kotoko assured him that it wouldn't happen again and prayed that Naoki wouldn't come back to the shop anymore. Summer flew by and the second year of hich school started. Once again Kotoko, Satomi, Kin-chan, and Junko were still in the F class and Naoki was in the A class. Spring came and the sakura floweres were blooming. Kotoko's dad decided to take her the Cherry Blossom Festival and so did Naoki's parents. "Wow," Kotoko said looking at the rows and rows of cherry trees planted. "They are so pretty. It looks like your in a dream and floating around on pink clouds." "Kotoko," her dad said. "What?" she replied. "I'm going to go get some food." "Oh, I want rice cakes, squid balls, and a green tea," she said. "All right," he replied. "Stay right here." Still overwhelmed by the sight of the cherry blossoms Kotoko wandered off into her daydream. Her thoughts were interrupted when she bumped into someone. "Sorry," she said. "It's ok," the voice replied. This voice sounds so familiar. Kotoko slowly looked up to see Irie Naoki standing in front of her. Naoki looked down to see a wide eyed girl staring up at him with awe. It's the girl I saw at Wonder Dog he thought. She has a real innocent look to her. "I'm sorry," Kotoko said again. She still couldn't believe that she ran into Irie Naoki and he was talking to her. "It's all right," he replied. "Be careful." And with that he walked off into the corwd, leaving Kotoko standing there still in shock. For the next few months Kotoko still kept her distance from Naoki. She was still surprised that she bumped into him. By the end of the year Kotoko started to think if she should tell him her feelings. "Junko, Satomi," Kotoko asked. "Do you think that I should tell Irie-kun how I feel?" "No way," Satomi exclaimed. "He doesn't even know you. What do you expect him to do, tell you that he likes you too??" "Well, I don't know," Kotoko said. "I just want him to know. I mean there is only one more year of high school and after that I probably won't see him anymore. So I just want him to know." "Don't do it," Junko said. "Leave it alone. Why don't you date Kin-chan? You know that he's liked you since junior high." "I know, but I can't," Kotoko replied. Kin-chan doesn't make me feel the way that Irie-kun does when I look at him. "Just don't do it, ok?" Junko said. "We don't want to see you get hurt." "Yeah, Kotoko," Satomi piped in. School ended and once again Kotoko found herself going to summer school to make up for her terrible grades. One day during the summer her dad asked her if he could talk to her. "Kotoko," her father said. "Next week I'm going to my old high school friend's house for dinner and I was wondering if you would like to come?" "What day is it?" she asked. "I think it's Saturday," he replied. "I'm definitely going because I haven't seen him for more than 10 years." "Saturday night," Kotoko said. "I can't go because I'm going over to Junko's house to sleepover. Sorry." "It's ok," he said smiling. "I just wanted them to meet you, maybe next time." The last year of high school started, Kotoko was not looking forward to her last year because after that was clloege and then getting a real job. She also couldn't forget about Naoki even though she tried very hard to get him out of her head. So two months into the last year she decided to write him a letter. It took her hours to write and days to get the guts to give it to him. On Monday she decided to finally do it. Seeing him walk up the stairs to the school with his friend she knew it was now or never. "Irie-kun," Kotoko said. Naoki turned around to see the girl that he bumped into at the cherry blossom festival. After bumping into her he couldn't get her face out of his mind. It wasn't like she was pretty, but there was something about her. He knew that she was going to give him a love letter in front of the whole school. Knowing what would happen if he accepted he decided not to. "Umm, would you please look at this," Kotoko asked as she bowed her head and held the note out to him. "I don't want it," he replied looking at her with disgust. And with those words started the whole story of Naoki and his Kotoko. =) Please tell me what you thought Tina tnabna83@aol.com
