Volume 20:
Kotoko misses Naoki very much and secretly went to look for him. When she arrives in Kobe she went to "spy" on him at the hospital he's working for. She met a little girl there who seemed to have a special bond with Naoki. The little girl, Nami wants her mother to end up with Naoki and goes out of her way to create opportunities. Nami's mother asks Naoki out to discuss something, Naoki agrees and Kotoko follows.
As Kotoko hides in the bushes, she imagines scenarios when she'ss confront Naoki about his "unfaithfulness". She sees Nami's mother crying on Naoki's shoulder and is upset.... suddenly Nami found her and called Naoki. Kotoko is discovered by Naoki...
Kotoko explained why she's in Kobe and etc and told him she's going home now and left. She came back, cause she forgot her bag. She left...after a while, Naoki went out to look for her and found her sitting right outside his door. She missed the last train and Naoki told her to stay with him that night. She cried hugging him saying that she missed him etc.
They talked abt Nami and how she has heart problems and how she doesn't want to go for surgery because her father died etc. Naoki revealed that he wants to work in the pediatric (I think) department. As they talk, Kotoko asks Naoki what is the reason he became a doctor, he refused to tell her. Kotoko is offended and started arguing with him...he kissed her.
The next day, Kotoko prepares to leave for Tokyo. As she was saying bye to Naoki, Nami comes up to them as asks them what their relationship is. She asked Naoki if Kotoko is his girlfriend. He said no. Relieved, Nami started saying that she knew it cause it's impossible that Kotoko is Naoki's girlfriend. Naoki said that Kotoko is his wife. Everyone is shocked. Nami shrugged it off as a joke when Naoki again clarified that Kotoko is indeed his wife.
Nami cries and told Naoki that he should end up with mer mother cause she's prettier etc...when Naoki interrupts and say that it's impossible. Nami in anger ran and fainted.
Nami required a surgery but she refuses unless her mother marries Naoki. Kotoko talks to Nami's mother. At the end of conversation Kotoko is resolved to talk to Nami into going for the surgery.
Kotoko's effort to be friends with Nami was rebuffed at first. Kotoko starts to tell Nami about her courtship of Naoki and how she had to fight off the other competitors etc. Kotoko figured out that Nami actually likes Naoki and struck a deal with her...
Before the operation began, Nami asked Naoki why he became a doctor. He replied saying that when he was feeling lost as to what he can do, he remembered someone saying to him, "you can be a doctor." Nami guessed that person is Kotoko. Naoki remembered Kotoko's expression when she was encouraging him. He said to Nami but it seemed Kotoko has forgotted that she's the one who said it.
The operation was a success. Naoki sends Kotoko back to the train station and discovered why Nami went for the operation so willingly....Kotoko promised Nami that Yuki can be her husband! ;;^^
As Kotoko and Naoki says goodbye, Naoki told her that she has to passed her exams with just one try. As Naoki walks off, Kotoko yells, "Naoki-kun I will do my best!!!!!!"

Kotoko passed her exams and in her joy she hugged Yuki saying, "Naoki, I'm so happy!". Yuki got annoyed and yelled he's not Naoki. :)
Kotoko calls Naoki to give him the good news but he's not in. She decides to go down to Kobe to give him a surprise. Who knew the next day when she's supposed to set off, there's a storm. She doesn't care and made her way to the train station and found out there's a delay due to the storm. Despite the signs so far, she decided to see Naoki no matter what.
While in the train to Shin Osaka, she changed into her nurse uniform and imagines the scene where she'll be reunited with Naoki. Who knew there's a sick guy in the train and Kotoko had to handle the matter. In the end she had to call the paramedic when they've arrived in Shin Osaka.
Through the confusion, Kotoko missed the train to Kobe. She took the next train which later she found out to be the wrong train. ;;^^ She finally arrives in Shin Kobe station at 11.30pm. Being late, she couldn't get any other transport to Naoki's place. With no money she couldn't call Naoki either, and since she's earing her nurse uniform she's also cold.
She sees a guy sleeping covered with the newspaper and decides to follow suit. As she prepares to sleep, she talks to the guy. She tells him why she's here etc, while he just kept quiet. As she said to him, this has been a really bad day, he laughs. Kotoko got really annoyed and yelled at him. As it turns out, the guy is Naoki! :)
Naoki was told by Mama about Kotoko's arrival, so he has been waiting. Kotoko cries. Naoki then said, "Now we can work together. This pass year has been hard on you." Kotoko cries harder and hugs Naoki.
As they walk back to Naoki's place Kotoko tells him what happened to her, with him responding, "I heard that one just now." :)

This is a short side story to Itazura na Kiss.
The story started off with Kotoko playing with Satomi's daughter, Kiseki (???). Instead of going to Kotoko, it seemed Kiseki loves Yuki. Kotoko, Satomi and Zinko started talking about first love. Kotoko professed that Naoki is her first love. Zinko asked Kotoko is she ever liked anyone else before Naoki.
Kotoko proceeded to share her love story...
When Kotoko was in kindergarden, she and this little boy Ryoga was an "item". Until one day, Kotoko heard and saw the picture of a prince charming in Sleeping Beauty. Upon realising that Ryoga is not what a prince is meant to be Kotoko "broke up" with him on the spot...;;^^
In primary school, Kotoko likes this boy, Takeshi. He looks like a prince. Unfortunately he's a coward, who left her behind to be beaten up by other kids...;;^^
When Kotoko was 14, she and her friends read a magazine that said that Kotoko's future love will have a name starting with "N". They tried to guess what the name might be. Who knew a soccer ball came hurling and a boy saved them. He told the ppl who played the soccer off. Kotoko began to like him.
Kotoko found out his surname is Naokazu and is convinced that he is the one. As Kotoko peeped at him while he's in class, Kotoko realised...he's quite stupid...;;^^ She also found out his name is Syouichi...;;^^
In high school, 1st year, Kotoko was sitting in the hall, when suddenly it was announced that Irie Naoki will be giving a speech. She perked up. She realised he looks likea prince and best of all his name starts with "N".... :)
